How I Clean My Make-Up Brushes

Sunday, March 23, 2014

Most of you girls and guys may know that washing your make-up brushes is possibly THE biggest chore ever! But it needs to be done, so I thought I would show you how I clean my make-up brushes . I try (and that is a try as I get very lazy) to clean my brushes once a week as you can tell by the state of these brushes it's been well overdue.

I have found that Johnson's Baby Shampoo works the best along with MAC Brush Cleanser to clean my brushes. Branded 'Brush Cleaners' tend to be rather expensive and they don't last very long. This MAC one cost £12 and this only lasts about a month or so if I don't use anything else to clean my brushes, so I decided to research and I found Johnson's Baby Shampoo - it seems to do the trick as it's gentle and a quick cleaner.

I put a few drops in hot water to build up a foamy fluid to soak the brushes and slowly massage any product out. For the brushes with a heavier amount of product on I apply a small amount of the shampoo onto the brush and gentle massage in (I don't want any bristles to fall out) - I repeat this process with clean hot water between 2-3 times if needed.

Urghhh! - The results may not be pretty, but it is better in your sink than on your face!

Voila, nice clean brushes. To dry your brushes simply lay them on a flat surface, spread out on either a flannel or a towel - do not try to dry them as this can damage the brushes. I usually clean my brushes in the evenings and leave them over night to dry, by the morning they are beautiful and clean.

What do you use to clean your make-up brushes?
