Birchbox - April

Monday, May 05, 2014

This is my first ever Birchbox and I decided to cave in and subscribe to see what the hype was about. There is a few beauty boxes around, I used to be subscribed to Glossybox but I felt that they were going 'down hill' and I unsubscribed a few years ago and I haven't found another worth sticking too.

Birchbox is £10 per month + £2.95 postage, contains between 4-5 'luxe' products and they advise they offer a Money Back Guarantee. (I have looked into this and it's only if you have not touched any of the products just in case you try and don't get on with them then unfortunately you can't return)

The first think that caught my eye about the Birchbox is the super cute packaging, I love simple decorated boxes as they are so chic. You then open the box and there's more cute packaging with a small drawstring bag holding all your products in - you can also use this after you have finished with the box to store your make-up/beauty goodies in.

So, on to the products...

Propercorn | Fiery Worcester Sauce and Sun-Dried Tomato | 90p
I have heard wonderful things about Propercorn and I really want to try them so I am looking forward to seeing what they are like. I am not a fan of Worcester Sauce usually but this gives me a chance to test the different flavours.

Laura Mercier | Ambre Vanille Soufflé Body Crème | £44.50 for 50ml
This product is absolutely to die for! (not literally) It smells divine and the scent lasts for ages whilst nourishing your skin. I could literally eat it (please don't I don't think it would taste very nice) I don't think the product is worth the value so I wouldn't purchase myself but it is yummy and I am pleased I got to try it.

One Love Organics | Skin Savior Beauty Balm | $68 for 105ml
I have never heard of One Love Organics before but one thing I love already is that they are cruelty free so thumbs up One Love. This product claims to be a make-up remover, cleanser and moisturiser all together. I don't really how this will work as it feels quite thick (a bit similar to Liz Earle Superbalm Moisturiser) but I will have a play and let you know.

TheBalm Cosmetics | How 'Bout them Apples? Cheek & Lip Tint | £26 for full Palette
This product is not as big as you think it is, it's about 1" big so a really small sample but the product itself is cute I used this on my cheeks and lips (I am not really a creamy cheek person) but I loved the colour, it was a very natural subtle pink shade just to add some colour to my skin. I wouldn't see me buying the full sized product and I don't think that I would use this very often.

Beauty Protector | Protect and Detange | £15 for full sized
I for one hate trying new hair products, mainly because I have a really sensitive scalp that when I find something that I love I tend to stick with it so I don't normally purchase ones I haven't heard of or seen great reviews of so personally for me samples of hair products are perfect as I get to see if they actually work and if they suit my skin before splashing out on them.

Colour Club | Gala's Gems Nail Polish | £15 for a set of 4
I don't think I will ever use this, I don't like the colour as it seems a bit young for me. It reminds me of that make-up/nail polish sets that your parents used to get you to play with when you were younger. We all have items that you don't use from a Beauty Box, this will definitely be that product. Sorry Colour Club this shade is just not for me.

I can't make up my mind about Birchbox or any of these beauty box subscriptions if I am honest, for £10 I wouldn't buy this again as the only product I would probably use is the Laura Mercier Soufflé Body Crème, and it seems that the cost is just for the pretty packaging so I am going to be un-subscribing as I don't think it is worth the money at all.

Your views may be different so if you fancy trying April's Birchbox I do have a giveaway on Twitter and Facebook if you want to enter and try for yourself. (I believe the box is slightly different to these products above, the giveaway box was not paid for by myself).

What do you think of Birchbox? Are there any other Beauty Boxes that you would recommend?

  1. I don't subscribe to any beauty boxes as I don't think it's worth it for me since I wouldn't use half of the stuff in there. I do think that Birchbox is one of the nicer ones though. I love the drawstring bag, and they always seem to have a nice skincare product or two in each box.
